A Fresh Look at Snövind Malamutes' Kennels

After weeks of planning, measuring, building, and more measuring (because apparently Luna requires everything to be exact), the kennel renovation is finally complete!

Why We Renovated

With seven Alaskan Malamutes and training schedules that run year-round, our facilities needed to grow with our pack. The old setup was functional, but "functional" isn't good enough when you're serious about your dogs' comfort and wellbeing.

We wanted: better ventilation for summer months, more individual space for each dog, improved drainage, and a layout that makes our daily feeding and training routines more efficient.

The Build

The renovation took about three weeks of solid work. We redesigned the kennel layout from the ground up, focusing on:

  • Individual kennel spaces — each dog has their own area with room to stretch
  • Improved drainage — Swedish weather demands it
  • Better ventilation — crucial for thick-coated Malamutes in summer
  • Feeding station upgrades — streamlined for our twice-daily routines
  • Equipment storage — dedicated space for harnesses, ganglines, and gear

Luna's Official Inspection

Of course, no project at Snövind is complete until Luna has conducted her thorough inspection. True to form, she made her rounds, checking every corner, sniffing every surface, and giving us that look that says "I'll allow this... for now."

"Luna made sure everything met her high standards. She inspected the new fencing, tested the gate latches, and spent a solid five minutes evaluating the new flooring. We passed. Barely."

The other dogs were less critical. Oden went straight for his new space and settled in immediately. Angel explored with her usual joyful curiosity. Thor and Zara were characteristically unfazed. And Pella, our youngest, was most excited about the new yard space for play.

The Result

The updated kennels give every member of our pack the comfort they deserve. Better rest means better recovery between training sessions, which means better runs. It's an investment in our dogs' wellbeing — and honestly, it makes our daily routines so much more pleasant too.

🏠 Renovation Highlights

  • 7 individual spaces — one for each pack member
  • 3 weeks of build time
  • 1 head inspector (Luna, naturally)
  • New feeding station — twice-daily routine now takes half the time
  • Equipment room — all harnesses and gear organised in one place

A happy kennel means happy dogs. And happy dogs run like the wind. ❄️🔨
