Snovind Malamutes 7-Day Off-Season Training Plan

Monday — Solo Walks & Recovery

After a fun-filled weekend of off-leash runs, Mondays are a time to reset. Each dog gets a solo leash walk, giving them one-on-one time to stretch their legs, sniff around, and enjoy some quiet bonding.

  • 2-3-year-olds: Short tyre pull sessions on grassy terrain — 10-15 minutes per dog, focus on form and confidence
  • 1-year-olds: Light object drag walks (no tyre) + leash walk — 5-10 min drag + 20 min walk
  • Puppy (4 months): Gentle leash walk + new surface exposure — 10-15 minutes max, no weight

Wednesday — Team Runs & Obedience (Moderate Day)

  • 1-year-olds: Light hill walks (no resistance) + nosework — 20-25 minutes
  • Puppy: Crate games, balance pads, scent work — 5-10 minutes

Friday — Long Walks & Water Fun

  • 1-year-olds: Endurance walk — 2-3 km
  • Puppy: Exploratory leash walk — 15-20 minutes max

Optional: Water play in lakes or streams for gentle joint work and cooling off.

Saturday & Sunday — Off-Leash Adventure Runs

When the weather allows, the Snovind Malamutes enjoy free off-leash runs in safe, enclosed areas. These sessions are pure joy — the dogs sprint, play, and explore to their hearts' content. This isn't just about burning energy — it's essential for mental health, social bonding, and keeping our working dogs balanced and fulfilled.

Age-Appropriate Training: Why It Matters

  • Puppy (4 months): Confidence building and exploration only
  • 1-year-olds: Light training and intro to structure
  • 2-3-year-olds: Full resistance training and team work

Each session prioritizes safety, structure, and fun — the pillars of a strong, confident working dog.
